Unit #5

I truly enjoy the subtle mind exercise over the loving-kindness exercise.  It gives the feeling of great peace and calming.  I can get through the whole meditation.  I love using the blockage part of the exercise.  It helps me to get rid of any issues which seem to be preventing me from moving through my day with ease.  If I’m having a particularly hard day, I use this meditation to get me back on track.

The benefit to the subtle mind exercise compared to the loving-kindness exercise is I can use it daily with results.  I tend to get frustrated with the loving-kindness exercise because of some imagery issues.  They tend to block my ability to get through it sometimes.  I like to finish things so not being able to get through a meditation causes stress.

If your spiritual wellness is not doing well, it will affect your mental and physical wellness as well because they are all connected.  I know with me personally that if my physical wellness is off, my mind and spirit feels disconnected.  I found the best way to improve aspects of my life is to start with my mind and the rest tends to fall into place.  We can change our health and life by making sure we take care of our mental, spiritual and physical wellness.  We can determine our destiny instead of just letting it happen with the use of our mind.

I too found it easier following the subtle mind tape. I could listen and follow along without too much conversation to listen too. It is an exercise to practice over and over again. Once I can get into a routine I should be able to pick it up whenever I need it. K

  2. Hi Stacy,
I too found the subtle mind exercise much easier and it does provide great peace and calming. I loved your statement that "we can determine our destiny..." that is so true, our minds are so amazing and the more I learn the more I want to learn in regards to this subject.
I also had trouble with the loving kindness exercise but will revisit it. I think the barriers we put up are shown within this exercise and I am going to see if I can conquer it, what about you? Will you try the loving kindness exercise again?
    Peace ~ Robin

    1. I have been working on the Loving-Kindness exercise since October of last year so I have not given up on it. It is a great exercise to utilize and I still struggle with it on a regular basis, but for my own barriers that I seem to put there without realizing it. I have tried the Loving-Kindness exercise over and over again. I encourage you to use it again as well. It does get easier each time you listen to the exercise and use it. Good luck with your journey.

  3. Hi Stacy,

I enjoyed your post and had to mention that I love how you highlight the point that we can be in charge of our destiny if we so choose to. I think a lot of people feel like happens *to* them instead of for them, because they choose not to take charge and make the hard decisions. Either way, life will happen, but I would rather call the shots than just be handed things. I also like that you mention how if something in us in unbalanced then everything is thrown off. This is very true, and yet again I will mention how people seem to want a quick cure instead of getting to the root of the problem and solving it once and for all. I think a lot of us in this class will walk away leading more happy productive lives than many others in the world, simply because of what we have learned. Hopefully we choose to go out and spread the word! : )
    Great post!
